A message addressed to the teams
On his personal blog, Jordan Mechner, to whom we owe the birth of this saga Prince of Persiareturned to the cancellation of the project at Ubisoft, displaying a certain sadness and a lot of empathy towards the affected teams:
“ I was hoping that my first post of the year would celebrate the release of The Sands of Time, but alas, that will not be the case. The cancellation of the remake as part of Ubisoft’s restructuring was a disappointment to all the fans who were looking forward to it, myself included. All my sympathy goes to the Montreal development team; I imagine their pain. Seeing a project abandoned is a terrible ordeal. This is an aspect of the video game industry that the general public is often unaware of, but that developers unfortunately know too well. »
He continues:
“ A cancellation so close to release can be especially devastating for younger team members who don’t have decades of experience under their belt. It’s difficult to suddenly accept that four years of hard work, of which we were proud and eager to see published, will never see the light of day. Words like loss and mourning may seem exaggerated, but artists pour their hearts into their work. Memories of nights and weekends spent working hard in the studio instead of being at home with loved ones, sacrifices that seemed worth it at the time, only amplify the pain in hindsight, once their work disappears. »
A feeling that we can only share and which makes this cancellation still difficult to swallow, especially for a project which was almost finished. Now fingers crossed that the next game Prince of Persia has a slightly happier ending, both for the fans and for Jordan Mechner.
