PS6 and portable: the first technical specs revealed, and it’s very HEAVY

According to publications from KeplerL2, the next PlayStation could integrate up to 30 GB of GDDR7 memory, a type of ultra-fast RAM that is still not widely used among the general public. “The PlayStation 6 could have up to 30 GB of GDDR7 memory.”

This capability would be made possible through an innovative configuration of memory modules. Sony would consider using 3 GB chips arranged in a “clamshell format”, making it possible to achieve this impressive figure despite a small memory bus. “Achieve 30 GB of GDDR7 with only 4 GB modules on a 160-bit bus.” This configuration would offer a bandwidth of 640 GB/s, which represents a colossal jump in performance for developers. “Increased bandwidth, up to 640 GB/s.”

Project Canis: Sony’s portable console enters the big leagues

In parallel with the PS6, Sony is also working on a new portable console, which would compete with the ROG Ally and Steam Deck. According to KeplerL2, this model would integrate 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory, a very high level for a portable machine. “The PlayStation handheld console could have 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory.”

This would position this “portable PS6” at the level of the most powerful portable consoles of the moment. If it does not compete with a PS5 in terms of graphics, it could nevertheless offer real AAA mobile gameplay, supported by very fast memory.

A release targeted for 2027… but information to be confirmed

According to previous leaks, the PlayStation 6 is aiming for a release in 2027. However, no official announcement from Sony has yet confirmed either the date or the characteristics. The current data, although promising, must therefore be taken with hindsight. “These kinds of statements or speculations should be taken with a grain of salt until they are officially confirmed.”

However, the reliable history of KeplerL2 and the technical discussions around the memory bus and GDDR7 modules lend credence to these rumors. Enough to make players dream while waiting for a proper announcement.
