Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: a last minute announcement risks disappointing those waiting for the remake

Sony is preparing to organize its traditional State of Play this month of February, an event now expected as a festival of announcements. Since 2021, this presentation has become a key moment for PlayStation game fans, always curious to discover surprises from partner studios. Among the titles hoped for by the community, one name keeps coming up: Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. But the latest rumors are seriously dampening fans’ enthusiasm.

While games like Marvel’s Wolverine Or Marathon are mentioned, a renowned insider has put an end to hopes around Black Flag. On the ResetEra forum, shinobi602used to precise leaks, simply answered “No” when asked if the remake would be revealed during State of Play. A laconic statement, but one that leaves little room for doubt.

A release close… but not for yet

Relaunched by Internet users, shinobi602 provided important clarification. According to him, Ubisoft is not holding back the remake, but the timing of the announcement is not yet right: “I wouldn’t say that they are ‘holding it back’. A reveal and a release are planned, but it’s not yet the time. It won’t be very far away.” Words which suggest that the wait should not last very long.

According to circulating information, the game was initially supposed to be finalized in early February for a release scheduled for March. This window would then have been postponed by one year. However, some clues now suggest a launch as soon as May or June 2026.

An open secret at Ubisoft

Although no official announcement has been made yet, the existence of the remake is considered a poorly kept secret of the industry. The first rumors date back to 2023, the year when Ubisoft Montreal would have started full development of this new version of the cult game.

Since then, leaks have been piling up: premature PEGI classification, pieces of the soundtrack released online, and even an early reveal of the dubbing actor ofEdward Kenwaywho almost faced legal action. Despite everything, Ubisoft remains silent.

A modernized Black Flag freed from its faults

According to known elements, the remake would integrate new gaming systems and would abandon certain sequences considered dated, notably the little-appreciated contemporary phases. Like recent opuses like Odyssey Or Valhallathis version should adopt mechanics inspired by modern RPGs.

This repositioning is part of Ubisoft’s desire to modernize the license while capitalizing on the nostalgia of one of the most beloved parts of the series. You still have to choose the right moment to reveal it: obviously, it’s not the one yet.
