No doubt to avoid the season too much
For a long time, HBO didn’t really know if 3 seasons of The Last of Us would be enough, or if a fourth was necessary. Lately, a season 4 was the most supported hypothesis for the channel, even if it meant that the series would have to take its time to explore what it still has to adapt from The Last of Us: Part II. But reading the words of Casey Bloys, who is at the head of the channel, we guess that the show could end in season 3.
When asked at Deadline if this third season will also be the last (in the same way as the next season of the series Hacks), he answers:
“ It would appear that this is the case, but for these kinds of decisions, we will defer to the showrunners. So you can ask them the question. »
An answer that is still a little vague but which still seems to indicate that the next burst of episodes could be the last for The Last of Us, provided that it does not reproduce the pattern of season 2, which had too few episodes. Let’s also remember that the series is now being done without Neil Druckmann, who has stepped down to concentrate on Naughty Dog’s next game. This season 3 should in any case be broadcast sometime in 2027.
