The Nintendo Switch 2 retro ecosystem continues to gain momentum. According to a leak relayed by Wario64 via a Walmart advertisement, two cult GameCube titles are about to join the Nintendo Switch Online offer. If we are to believe this indiscretion, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 will very soon join the library of retro games accessible via subscription. No official announcement has yet been made, but all eyes are now on the Nintendo Direct on February 5, 2026, which could confirm the information.
A slowly growing GameCube library
Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025, the integration of GameCube games was one of the console’s flagship promises. Several great classics have already been added, such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario Strikers or Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. However, some expected titles such as Super Mario Sunshine or Pokémon Colosseum are still waiting to be released. These two new additions weren’t on the originally announced roster, which both surprises and delights.
A reception that risks being shared
Even though these two games remain acclaimed for their qualities, fan reactions could be divided. Many were hoping for a remaster of Metroid Prime 2 along the lines of the remake of the first opus. Additionally, the original GameCube version is renowned for its difficulty, without the adjustments present in the Wii re-release. As for Pikmin 2, the game has already been relaunched on Switch in an HD remastered version. Its addition to Nintendo Switch Online could therefore seem redundant for some subscribers.
A good point for newcomers
Despite everything, these additions remain a golden opportunity for players who never discovered these titles at their time. And free integration into the service allows Nintendo to enrich its offering at no additional cost to subscribers. Be careful though: some demos or retro additions have already been removed from the store in the past. It is therefore advisable not to delay trying them once they become available.
