Battlefield 6: the Contaminated map arrives in season 2, Golmud Railway soon to return

After a chaotic launch in fall 2025, Battlefield 6 is beginning its recovery. EA has lifted the veil on the first new features of its season 2, expected on February 17, by revealing two major pieces of information: the arrival of the new Contaminated map, and the highly anticipated return of Golmud Railway, a cult Battlefield 4 map.

It is via a long blog post that Battlefield Studios presented its roadmap. Through the Battlefield Labs program, developers intend to test new mechanics and maps in real conditions in advance. Stated objective: rebuild a bond of trust with the community, after the postponement of season 2 and criticism of the limited content.

Contaminated: a new card at the heart of the tests

The heart of the announcement is Contaminated, a new map which promises to be a battlefield halfway between Eastwood (Season 1) and Mirak Valley. Mountains, fog, dense forest and an airstrip outline a tactical setting, where sniper ambushes and motorized squads clash. “We will evaluate the interaction between vehicle gameplay, air presence and infantry combat, as well as the placement of shelters and resources, and objective boundaries.” “We will also test how the map’s unique gameplay mechanics work in real play, as well as the tools available to players to interact with them.” The first tests will be available from Friday January 24 for players registered in Labs.

The return of Golmud Railway, legendary Battlefield 4 map

But the most notable surprise remains the return of Golmud Railway, a monumental map from BF4. Battlefield Studios has confirmed that this completely rebuilt version will be “the largest multiplayer map in Battlefield 6.” “We want to test changes such as expanded flight space, increased coverage for aircraft, and other adjustments as the map evolves.” The map will gradually integrate the new features of the Frostbite engine and systems specific to BF6, such as flying vehicles and the destructible environment. An approach that will allow you to refine your balance through player feedback.

What Battlefield Labs is planning for the future

In addition to these two maps, the developers have also promised tests for the return of the AH-6 Little Bird, the cult helicopter of the series, as well as a possible solo queue for the REDSEC battle royale mode, still in internal testing.

Community manager Kevin Johnson summed up the studio’s mindset: “Along with that, we want to make sure that ongoing, meaningful action is taken on your feedback – Battlefield Labs will be the conduit for that.” “What is in preparation is going to be a great moment of collaboration!”
