PS3 on PC in 2026, it’s (almost) perfect, more than 70% of games are fluid and free

The PlayStation 3 returns to the forefront, but this time, it’s the PC that holds the controller. Nearly twenty years after its launch, the Sony console is experiencing an unexpected revival of interest thanks to the impressive progress of the RPCS3 emulator. According to the latest data relayed on January 20, 2026, more than 70% of PS3 titles are now perfectly playable on PC, without bugs or major slowdowns.

For the nostalgic or the curious, it’s a godsend: no need to bring out your old console or break the bank for a PS5 and a PS Plus Premium subscription. A simple PC configuration is enough to rediscover an unfairly forgotten library.

RPCS3 emulator breaks new barrier

The symbolic milestone of 70% has been crossed according to the developers of RPCS3, relayed by WCCFTech. “As revealed by WCCFTech, the popular RPCS3 emulator continues to make great strides in the world of PS3 emulation, so much so that it is now capable of running just over 70% of the console’s games without issue.”

But progress does not stop there. In fact, an additional quarter of the games can also be launched, although the emulation quality may vary. “In total, only 2.87% of games remain unplayable with this software, which is remarkable considering the progress made in such a short time.”

a free alternative to PlayStation Plus Premium

While Sony is increasingly focusing on backwards compatibility via its PlayStation Plus Premium offer, the system’s limitations are glaring: high cost, instabilities of the PS3 streaming service, and the need to own a PS5.

Faced with this, RPCS3 stands out as a powerful and completely free alternative as long as you own the original games. Better yet, the emulator is now compatible with portable devices, making the experience even more accessible.

what it really changes for players in 2026

It is no longer just a technical curiosity reserved for enthusiasts. For thousands of players, this is the opportunity to replay gems like Demon’s Souls, Red Dead Redemption or Ni no Kuni without technical or financial barriers.

The arrival of RPCS3 in the arsenal of accessible solutions transforms the way in which classics are consumed. With a simple PC and a little curiosity, the whole history of the PS3 becomes alive, fluid, and above all free.
