Although “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” was released in Japanese cinemas almost a year ago, a streaming start is still not in sight. Instead, another theatrical release has now been announced. We summarize.
Re-released in cinemas in Japan
The first part of the “Infinity Castle” trilogy returns to selected Japanese cinemas for a limited time from June 12th to 18th, 2026. The reason for this is winning a prize at the Eigakan Awards 2026, which those responsible would like to celebrate with another cinema release.
From an economic point of view, this step could be interesting. With around 40.2 billion yen (around 218 million euros) to date, the opening of “Infinity Castle” is currently the second most successful film in Japanese cinema history.
This puts it just behind the franchise predecessor “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” which grossed around 40.75 billion yen in 2020.
In view of the comparatively small gap, it is reasonable to assume that those responsible would like to use the new cinema release to surpass the previous record holder from their own ranks.
Setback for streaming fans
However, for fans who were hoping for a streaming release soon, this decision will be rather sobering. Because it shows more than clearly that the focus is currently still on theatrical exploitation.
Although the release of the Blu-ray and DVD editions in Japan is already scheduled for July 29, 2026, there have not yet been any concrete announcements for the international market. Neither a physical release nor a streaming start have been confirmed yet. Of course we will keep you updated.
The previous four seasons of “Demon Slayer” are available in full on DVD and Blu-ray and are available on demand in this country on Crunchyroll, Netflix, RTL+ and aniverse. A steelbook edition will be released in August 2026.
